Mile-High Dream 6: Twilight Shrinking

(Cubed Cinder)

Ordon Village
Link's hut

As the night sky loomed over all of Hyrule, Link, in his Ordon clothing, climbed up the ladder to the entrance of his hut.
"Link! Wait up!" a familiar voice shouted. After Link finished climbing, he turned around to see person behind the voice. It was four of his younger friends: Colin, Malo, Talo, and Beth. Link smiled upon seeing them.
"Hey, Colin! Everyone!" Link shouted.
"You'll say goodbye to us before you leave, right!?" Colin shouted. It was no secret to Ordon Village that Link had saved all of Hyrule from being engulfed by the Twilight Realm. But instead of resting comfortably on his bed, Link had agreed with Princess Zelda, after the two watched Midna depart for the realm, he was going to personally search every last corner of Hyrule. He wanted to make absolutely certain that Hyrule was no longer in danger from not just the Twilight Realm, but the wrath of the evil Ganon despite his apparent death at the hands of Zant. He believed in the old mantra that has followed all heroes with the green tunic for hundreds of years... evil will never rest as long as the Triforce is together.

Link smiled as he looked down at the children.
"Of course. You know I will." Link said.
"Do you really have to go, Link?" Malo asked.
"I don't have to... I choose to." Link said.
"Man, that must be a chore. Having to go all around Hyrule just to make sure that stupid twilight is gone... even though you said it was all gone!" Talo said.
"Oh stop it, Talo! He is serving the princess of ALL Hyrule. There can't be anything more honorable than that!" Beth shouted.
"Don't worry, kids. When I come back, I'll hopefully bring the news that all of Hyrule is safe, including this wonderful village." Link said.
"Hey, come on, you silly kids! Your parents are worrying a bit, I reckon!" Fado shouted from several yards away.
"Good night, Link!" Colin said before all four kids finally left to return to their homes. Link waved them off before walking inside his own home. He didn't waste any time jumping onto his bed.
"I better sleep as much as I can. Tomorrow is the beginning of another long journey." Link said. Before long, he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Somewhere mysterious

No sooner than a few minutes after closing his eyes, Link opened them up again, only to find himself standing in a void-like atmosphere. There was no ground beneath him, yet he was standing straight, like he was on solid ground. And the scenery was nothing but pitch black, with red and green lines swirling back and forth. Link's heart jumped a beat.
"T...Twilight? It can't be!" Link shouted.
"Greetings, hero." a familiar voice said. Link had to gasp again. None of this could be happening... it wasn't supposed to happen!
"No... this can't be real!" Link said.
"Thought you'd never hear from me again, I take it?" Midna said.
"Midna... where are you!?" Link shouted.
"Doesn't matter. I'm just glad you didn't forget about me." Midna said.
"Well, of course... but still!" Link said.
"Don't worry. Your questions will soon be answered. You will need to pass three tests, however." Midna said.
"Tests? What tests!? What are you trying to pull!?" Link shouted.
"As I said... you will know soon enough." Midna said. Soon, her voice faded out in an ominous echo, and the twilight began to fade as well.
"Wait!!!" Link shouted.

Ordon Village

The next thing he knew, he snapped up in his bed to a sitting position, breathing heavily. Link looked around and realized he was back inside his hut.
"Whew... must've been a dream. Had to be with all that twilight gone." Link said.
"Hey, come on! Let's see if he's awake yet!" a familiar voice said. Link recognized the voice as Talo's, so he figured he, Beth, and Talo were on the way. But at the same time, there were rumbling sounds from outside, and the ground shook each time there was a rumbling sound as well.
"Huh? What is that shaking and rumbling?" Link asked himself. He decided to look outside the nearby window first. And a second afterwards... he got a closeup look at the biggest turquoise-colored eye he'll ever lay eyes on.
"Yikes!!!" Link shouted. Then he heard another familiar voice.
"Teehee! Yep, he's up, alright! I think I surprised him a bit." Beth said. Her voice was loud, like it was on a megaphone. Link had to cover his ears up when she spoke.
"Geez... not so loud, Beth!" Link said.
"Come on out, little Link! It's time to play!" Talo said.
"Huh? Little Link? Well, alright." Link said. Of course, he didn't understand why Talo would call him little, but when he stepped outside, he realized why.

Malo, Talo, and Beth were all HUGE. In fact, they all looked big enough to crush Link's entire hut if they wanted.

"What the...?" Link said.
"Hi, Link! Did you rest comfortably?" Beth asked.
"He probably didn't. He must be too tired to even speak!" Talo shouted.
"No, no... it's... it's not that. I just..." Link said.
"What!? I can't hear him!" Malo said.
"Don't worry, I'll fix that!" Beth said. She reached down and gently plucked Link from his little house. Soon, Link fell onto Beth's open palm, looking up at the young girl with one of the boys on each side.
"But how...? How are you all so big?" Link asked.
"Huh? We're not big, Link! You're the one that's so tiny!" Beth said.
"Yeah... you've been tiny since that twilight hit you last night!" Talo said.
"Huh? Last night? That doesn't make any sense..." Link said.
"So who's going to keep him today?" Talo asked.
"Well, naturally I should, because I'm a girl." Beth said.
"Come on, Beth! You have enough dolls! Let me play with him! He can help me with target practice!" Talo shouted.
"He could be my assistant in the shop I'm about to open." Malo said.
"What shop? What exactly are you going to sell?" Talo asked.
"Oh, you boys! Don't start with this shop argument again." Beth said. As the children continued to argue with each other, Link could tell that Beth was starting to forget about him, because her hand was moving around in ways that were making Link very uncomfortable. One slip and he could be meeting face-to-face with the ground below. Link finally felt the need to intervene, so he let out a loud whistle, the kind that would call Epona from anywhere in Hyrule. The kids immediately stopped talking and looked down at Link.
"Guys, stop arguing! I have a good idea to settle who gets to... (sigh) play with me." Link said.
"How's that?" Beth asked.
"Target practice, right here and now. Whoever hits the most bullseyes after 10 shots gets to keep me." Link said, pointing to the targets laid around the many trees that were to the east and west of where Link's hut would normally be. The kids all looked at each other for a few seconds and then gave the little Link their answer.
"Done!" they all shouted at once.
"Hold on... I'll go get three slingshots from my house." Talo said as he ran off.

A couple minutes later, Link was back at his hut, having been placed there by Beth who needed both her hands to play Target Practice with the boys. Link was surprised Beth was even participating, and therefore did not predict her to be winner. It was gonna be one of the boys who kept him... more than likely Talo. As soon as everyone was armed with their slingshot, along with ten rocks by their feet (all of them almost as big as Link himself).
"On your mark... get set... GO!!!" Link shouted, and all three kids started shooting at their respective targets, with Link keeping a close eye on them to keep score. This was no problem for him. He had remarkable eyesight considering how much he had to use a bow and arrow during his last adventure. Of course, having a fairy companion stealthily around (who he later found out was named Wii) to help with his aim made it all the more easier. Malo was having absolutely no luck, constantly missing his targets. Talo, as Link suspected, was hitting his marks... and so was Beth. It was surprisingly neck-and-neck between the two, and it ultimately came down to the final shot.
"This is it!" Talo said.
"Yeah, me too! Link will be mine!" Beth said.
"Huh? You mean you have nine too?" Talo asked.
"Heehee... sure do!" Beth said. Talo was sweating now. It would be the most humiliating thing in all of Hyrule, not just Ordon Village, if he were to lose to A GIRL! And so both kids took their shot. Beth was spot on, giving her a perfect ten for ten. And Talo? Wide Right.
"Ahhhhhh!!!!" Talo shouted over the near miss. Link was just as stunned, even though he didn't let out as much emotion as Talo did. He reluctantly called Beth the winner... especially as she looked down at her soon-to-be-claimed prize.
"Um... okay then. The winner is Beth." Link said.
"Yay! Wahoo!!!" Beth said as she dropped her slingshot and ran up to Link's hut, picking up the tiny hero once again and hugging him to her chest.
"Ack! Not so hard, Beth!!!" Link shouted.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I don't know my own strength..." Beth said.
"No, I think I don't know mine. But how did you get so good at shooting all of a sudden?" Link asked.
"I don't know... I guess it was from watching Colin. He's becoming so brave these days!" Beth said.
"Ah, speaking of Colin, I think I'll go check up on him. You coming, Malo?" Talo said.
"Yeah, I guess. But aren't we going to go to Kakariko today... you know, to see Mr. Renado?" Malo said.
"Okay, okay! I promise! Sheesh..." Talo said as the two walked away with Talo taking all his slingshots back.
"So immature." Beth said as she rolled her eyes.
"I guess it's for the best that I'm in your hands, on that note." Link said.
"You bet! Come on, let's get back home! Maybe you can help sell something at our shop!" Beth said, referring to Sera's Sundries, the shop of Ordon Village that's owned by her parents, Sera and Hanch.
"Like I have any other choice..." Link said under his breath. He watched as Beth closed her hands around him, leaving just his head sticking out.

As Beth walked through Ordon Village, Link took a look around just to see how much bigger everything looked from his new height. He set his sights on one person in particular.
"Ilia..." Link said to himself, watching as she was talking with her father, Mayor Bo. Link then shook his head.
"Hopefully she doesn't come shopping today..." Link said, thinking how bad it might be if Ilia saw him at the height he was at.

Beth entered Sera's Sundries, where she saw her mother wishing a customer well as he walked out with a bag in his hand.
"Oh, Beth! It's good to see you!" Sera said.
"Yes, mother. Look what I found! Doesn't Link look so cute?" Beth said.
"Well, that's nice, dear. But no time for show and tell! I'm expecting a lot of customers today!" Sera said.
"Okay, that's fine. I can help you out, right?" Beth said.
"Oh, of course!" Sera said. Beth smiled as Sera opened a door that allowed Beth to walk in behind the counter. Beth took her place to her mother's right. And as for Link, she needed a good place to keep him.
"Hmmm... let's see, where can you stay while I'm working?" Beth asked. Link looked and saw an old lantern on the far right end.
"There's a good spot. Right next to the lantern." Link said.
"Perfect!" Beth said as she placed the shrunken Link down by the lantern.
"Now you just stay put. I may show you off to some of our guests!" Beth said.
"Fine... where would I go anyways?" Link said. He tried pinching himself to try and wake himself up out of this dream, but it was no good. Shortly thereafter, a female customer came in. Sera recognized the lady to be Uli, Colin's mother. She was carrying in her newly born baby girl in both her arms.
"Uli! So good to see you!" Sera shouted.
"It's good to see you too, Sera." Uli said.
"Oh, look at that little angel! She is just so adorable... she reminds me of you, Beth!" Sera said.
"Mom, please!" Beth said.
"Well, I'm glad you like her. Listen, I'd love to stay and chat, but I'm short on time. I need a bottle of milk right away!" Uli said.
"One fresh bottle of Sera's milk coming up!" Sera said. As she went back to get the bottle, Uli looked down at the lantern and saw the tiny Link standing there. Link simply waved awkwardly up at the normal-sized woman. Uli couldn't wave back because her hands were full.
"Um... hi." Link said.
"Hi... you look familiar for some reason." Uli said.
"Huh? Uli doesn't remember me? But then again... I didn't expect to be shrunken and Beth's pet for the day." Link said to himself.
"Oh, this is my little friend, Link! He's helping me out today!" Beth said.
"Oh, I see. Interesting." Uli said. Sera came back with the bottle of milk.
"One bottle of milk, at your service!" Sera shouted.
"Oh, thank you, Sera... but how am I going to take it back? I've got my hands full, oh dear..." Uli said.
"Hmmm... I got an idea. Beth, could you deliver this bottle to Uli's house?" Sera said.
"Yes, mother!" Beth said as she walked out with Uli, holding the bottle in her hands.

So Link was all by himself with Sera, not that he minded. Clearly Sera was minding her own business, not even pausing to take a glance at the shrunken hero. They would not be alone for long, for about a few seconds after Beth and Uli leave the shop, Ilia comes walking through the doors. Link gasped and quickly hid behind the old lantern. Occasionally he would peek his head out to get an up close look at the girl over how much bigger she was compared to him.
"Ah, the mayor's daughter! Good morning!" Sera said.
"Hello, Sera. Can I get one bottle of lantern oil, please?" Ilia said.
"Lantern oil? May I ask what for, just out of curiousity?" Sera said.
"Well, my father used up a lot of the oil last night during... Sumo training. I think seeing the Gorons happy again has gotten him in that mood." Ilia said.
"Hahaha!!! That's just like Mayor Bo! Fair enough... wait here while I fetch it from the back." Sera said. Ilia acknowledged with a simple nod. While Sera was fidgeting through her inventory, Ilia looked at some of the other items in the shop. She looked down at the nearby lantern, where unknown to her, Link was hiding behind.
"Hmmm... this lantern looks really old." Ilia said as she reached down to pick it up. Link looked up and saw Ilia's huge hand on the lantern's handle. He took hold of one of the edges, knowing that Ilia was taking his hiding spot with her. Link hung on for dear life, trying to stay as concealed as possible. With a face full of Ilia's splendrous clothing, it was hard to keep focus. But Link got a stroke of luck in the form of Sera's voice.

"Oh, admiring the old lantern, I see?" Sera said. Ilia quickly put it back down on the table.
"I'm sorry, Sera. I guess I couldn't resist looking at it." Ilia said.
"Oh, don't worry about it! Someone from Kakariko gave me that lantern after they said it wouldn't light as long as it used to. Like I know how to fix things around here!" Sera shouted as she gave the bottle of lantern oil to Ilia, who simply laughed.
"Oh, by the way, have you seen Link today?" Ilia asked.
"Why sure! He's right..." Sera said. She looked by the lantern where the tiny Link was, but all she saw was Link feverishly shaking his head. She quickly realized what he was trying to signal.
"Oh, excuse me, he WAS right here. He picked up an extra slingshot for... good luck... I believe he said." Sera said.
"I see. He couldn't have left Ordon... he hasn't come by to pick up Epona." Ilia said.
"Who knows where he is now. You know that boy... the adventurous type. Kinda like my Beth!" Sera said, prompting another laugh from Ilia.
"Well, thank you. You have a nice day, Sera." Ilia said.
"And you too, young lady!" Sera shouted. As Ilia turned around to walk out, Beth came back inside.
"Oh... hi, Beth." Ilia said as she patted Beth gently on the head.
"Hello, Ilia!" Beth said.

Beth went behind the counter once more where she saw breathing a sigh of relief from behind the lantern.
"Link, were you talking with Ilia?" Beth asked.
"Are you kidding!? I can't let her see me like this!" Link said.
"Awww... what's wrong? A little shy because she's an older girl?" Beth said.
"Am not!!! Well, okay, maybe a little." Link said.
"Come on. You should chat with her. You can't keep hiding from her forever." Beth said.
"Okay then." Link said. Beth picked up Link and then looked up at her mother, Sera.
"Mother, I need to step out for a little bit." Beth said.
"Okay, but don't be too long!" Sera said. And with that in mind, Beth walked out of the shop.

After walking down the forest path, Beth found herself approaching the pond where Ilia would always care for Epona. In fact, that's exactly what was happening, as Ilia was washing as much of Epona as she could. Epona didn't seem too pleased, a sure sign that she was yearning for her one and only true rider, Link, to show up. Just short of reaching the pond, Link called out to Beth.
"Beth, wait! I think it would be best if I go it along from here." Link said.
"Huh? Are you sure? It's a long ways from here, and you're much too small for Ilia to see!" Beth said.
"Don't worry. I'll get her attention. This is what heroes do, after all." Link said.
"Yeah, but..." Beth said.
"Beth, please. Your mother needs you." Link said.
"Okay, you're right. But you tell Ilia to bring you back to the shop when you're done talking! I still want you to play with me!" Beth said.
"Of course." Link said. And with that, Beth gently placed the tiny Link down on the ground, a handful of yards (at his size) away from the pond.
"See you later, Link!" Beth said before she walked away. Link then focused his attention on Ilia. But first, he would have to make his way through the pond. With Link at only about six inches tall and the water about a foot high, he obviously would have to swim his way towards Ilia.

Or maybe he wouldn't have to, because Ilia was walking right towards him. Link had to step out of the way as she made her way out of the pond. She pulled out a small bottle of milk, as she was obviously taking a bit of a break. Looking all the way up at Ilia's face, Link slowly approached the giantess. He was so fascinated with Ilia that he tripped on her toes and landed face first on one of her feet. Of course, she couldn't feel anything as she was drinking her milk bottle and not looking down. But still, it didn't make Link feel any better. Fortunately for him, her feet had almost no odor, other than that of pure water. Ilia looked over when she heard Epona neighing.
"Okay, okay. I'm coming, Epona! You know, you're just like Link, always wanting to move around." Ilia said. She turned around to walk back towards the horse. She swung her feet so fast that Link couldn't hold on and was thrown back to the ground, a little bit farther away from the pond than when he first started. Link slowly got up and shook off the dizziness.
"Man, that was one wild ride. Okay, now's the time I get her attention." Link said. He started walking back towards the water, anxious to begin swimming.

But another unexpected turn of events happened. Link suddenly found himself being hurled through the air, like he was caught by something!
"Hey, what's going on!?" Link shouted. The next thing he knew, he found himself trapped inside a giant bug-catching net. And worst of all was who the net belonged too.
"Uh oh..." Link said.
"Well now, what have we here? It looks like a grasshopper!" Agitha said.
"A grasshopper?" Link said to himself. It had to be from that green tunic he was wearing. Had to be.
"You're pretty lucky I saved you, little grasshopper. Grasshoppers usually die if they stay in water for too long." Agitha said.
"I'm not a grasshopper. I'm Link... you know, the guy that got you your golden bugs!?" Link shouted.
"Ha! This grasshopper even talks! Is this a new species of bug? Agitha, the princess of all bugs, must get to the bottom of this!" Agitha shouted.
"Why am I not surprised...?" Link said to himself.
"To the castle we go!" Agitha said. Link knew what that meant. Whether he liked it or not, he was headed to Castle Town. To Agitha's 'castle,' no less.
"Ilia! Someone help!" Link shouted, but it was of no use as Link was already too far away from Ilia and from Ordon Village. He was forced to watch the scenery as Agitha happily made her way back home.

Ilia turned around where Link and Agitha originally were, but there was nobody there.
"Hmmm... I thought I heard a familiar voice. Maybe it's this warm air we're having that's finally getting to me." Ilia said to herself as she went back to washing Epona.

Castle Town
Agitha's 'Castle'

Several minutes later, after Link had drifted off to sleep from the long journey from Ordon Village to Castle Town, he was awakened to the sound of footsteps and the high-pitched whining of bugs, such as the praying mantis that he was sitting right next to. Looking at that made him jump to his feet, but he couldn't draw any weapons because... well, he didn't have any!
"Oh, look! The grasshopper has awakened!" Agitha said as she approached the little Link.
"Where am I?" Link asked.
"In my castle, little grasshopper! The castle for all my bugs." Agitha said.
"Great, just what I needed." Link said.
"So how is it that you are able to talk, grasshopper?" Agitha said.
"I'm not a grasshopper. I am Link, a human being like yourself!" Link said.
"Speak properly before the princess! That's quite the imagination for a grasshopper such as yourself." Agitha said.
"I told you I'm... oh, forget it." Link said.
"Hmmmm... you seem really tense. Maybe I should try and lighten the mood for you." Agitha said with a smile. She let out a whistle, and Link certainly took the brunt of it as close as he was to Agitha. A couple of the golden bugs, one male and one female, flew close to Agitha.
"Okay, my golden bugs, give this grasshopper a ride!" Agitha said as she lifted up Link and placed him on one of the golden bugs.
"This is going to hurt... WHOAAAAA!!!" Link said, and as soon as he landed on the bug, they both went flying wildly around the room. Link is very close to crashing into a bunch of objects, as he’s flying uncontrollably through the air. Agitha just laughed.
"Hahaha!!! I don't think he likes you too much, little grasshopper!" Agitha said.
"Get me down from here, and hurry!!!" Link shouted, not that Agitha could possibly hear him from up there. Link is about to slam head-on into a dresser, but the bug was able to steer away. Finally, seemingly after the bug caught sight of Agitha, it flew down into her open palms. Link looks worn out as he slowly leaps off the bug, and why not? He just went for the ride of his life.

"Enjoy the ride, grasshopper?" Agitha asked.
"Are you kidding?" Link said.
"Awww... I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Don't worry, I'll make you feel better!" Agitha said. Suddenly, Link went for another wild ride as she started tossing Link up and down. A little bit at first, but then Link was flying a good ten feet above Agitha's head.
"Weeeee!!! This is fun!" Agitha shouted. Of course, it wasn't fun at all for Link. His world was a spinning mess as he got dizzy beyond words from all the mid-air tossing and turning. He could only hope all this madness would stop soon.

After about a minute of flying up and down from Agitha's hands to the air, Link finally felt the tossing stop. After shaking off the dizzy spell, Link clearly showed frustration towards the young girl.
"Come on, cut that out!" Link shouted.
"Ooooh... such a fiesty grasshopper! You're probably hungry, like the rest of my bugs!" Agitha said.
"Now she catches on." Link said. Not that he was hungry, it's just that he didn't think Agitha had much of a mind outside of her intense love of bugs and royalty. He was then placed back on one of the tables, the one where the praying mantis was still sitting.
"You just wait there, grasshopper. And all my bugs! I'll be back with some special treats." Agitha said.
"Like I have a choice." Link said to himself. After Agitha left the room, he looked around, only to fixate his eyes on the praying mantis again.
"Now what are you looking at!?" Link shouted. Just like before, there was no reaction from the mantis. Link just sighed.
"I'm sorry. Being tiny for this long has made me quite cranky." Link said. Amazingly enough, the mantis suddenly jumped off the table after Link said that.
"Huh? I said I was sorry." Link said. At the same time, there was a faint humming noise. Link looked in every direction, trying to figure out the source of the humming. Finally, he looked down, and now he understood why the mantis jumped away.
"Huh? A twilight portal?" Link said. It didn't hit Link until he realized he was standing right on top of it.
"A twilight portal!? Ahhhhhhhh!!!" Link said as he felt himself being sucked in.

Somewhere in Castle Town

When Link regained consciousness, he noticed he wasn't inside the nature-filled confines of Agitha's 'castle' anymore. Instead, he was only interested in what he was sitting on. And it looked rather unusual. It was a dark surface with streaks of green that glowed every now and then.
"Huh? Where am I now?" Link said.
"Teeheehee... nice to see you finally waking up." the female voice said.
"That... that giggle." Link said. He slowly turned around. Oh no... he thought. He was now in Midna's hands. And it was the Midna he first met too. Not her true form. Midna let out that childish grin as soon as her face was in Link's view.
"Hello, my little hero. Long time no see." Midna said. Link, as he was slowly standing up, was shaking his head.
"No... no. No! You shouldn't be here!" Link said, pointing up to Midna.
"Why? Because all the twilight from this silly little place you call Hyrule was sealed? Did you really think I would close up all the gateways from my realm to yours?" Midna said.
"But you said it yourself... the Light World couldn't sustain another minute of twilight, not even after Zant was defeated!" Link said.
"Well, you know the old saying... anything is possible, right? I am the Twilight Princess after all." Midna said.
"(sigh) Now I know I'm dreaming. I wish I would just get out of here..." Link said.
"Don't worry. Your dream shall end soon. Not until I get what I want. Teeheeheehee!!!" Midna said. Link cringed his face a bit.
"That laugh's ten times scarier at this size." Link said to himself.
"Heh... too bad you're not the one going fee fi fo fum on me." Midna said.
"What?" Link said.
"Y'know, you better be nice to me, Link. I can do this to you, after all!" Midna said. She placed Link down on the ground, close to her feet. By this point, Link thought about calling for help, but knew it wouldn't do much good. Number one, because he was so small. And number two... Midna was clearly just a shadow to the Light World, as many people were walking by and didn't react one bit when they looked where Midna was normally standing.

Midna then let out a chant or two, and Link suddenly had to scream out as he felt himself transforming into a wolf.
"No! Stop!!!" Link said. Before he could say anymore, Link was fully transformed into his wolf form. All he could do now is either bark or howl up at the huge Midna.
"Awwww... having trouble, little doggy? I command you to sit!" Midna said. Link still barked out in anger, but Midna had the upper hand. The green lines on her body glowed at their brightest. Even her only visible eye was glowing at a brighter level.
"I said sit!!" Midna shouted. Link had no choice but to comply, not when she could easily put her foot down on him.
"Good dog! Want a treat?" Midna said, forming a biscuit-like object that was made completely out of twilight. Noticing that, Link couldn't eat it. He just growled up at Midna, who simply let out that childish laugh again.
"Teeheeheehee! You're so funny. I'm so glad I could meet up with you." Midna said. Link STILL was gnashing his teeth together, despite so not being in control of Midna.
"Okay, okay. You're such a party pooper!" Midna said. She let out the same chant, and Link was reversed back to his normal form. Of course, he was still only six inches tall, and he knew that as Midna picked him up once more.

"Seriously, Midna! You have no idea what it's like to be trapped in another body." Link said.
"Huh? You seem to forget, little hero... this is not my true form. So I know EXACTLY how you felt earlier." Midna said.
"(sigh) I can't win here." Link said.
"Hey, there's something I've always wanted to do." Midna said. She used her powers once more, this time to wrap Link around a green energy beam.
"Going down!" Midna said. She then tossed Link down, with the beam unwrapping as it closed in on the ground.
"Whoaaaaa!!!" Link shouted. Just before he could slam the ground, his descent stopped. At the very same time, he felt himself being lifted into the air, right back into Midna's hand. The cycle soon repeated itself; clearly Midna had made Link into her own little yo-yo.
"Teeheehee! They'd never let me have this much fun in the Twilight Realm!" Midna said. After a couple more up-and-down trips, she decided enough was enough and placed Link back in her hands, undoing the rope made out of her green energy.
"Like I said, little hero, they wouldn't let me have that much fun in the Twilight Realm." Midna said.
"Yeah, okay. I get it. For a dream, this sure has been a painful one." Link said.
"Awww... you know I'll protect you, like you and Princess Zelda protected me, right?" Midna said.
"Look, even if you say so, I still wish I could be normal-sized. You know? This is a dangerous situation for me, even if I did have protection." Link said. Midna stared at Link for a few seconds.
"You know... you're actually right." Midna said.
"Huh? You mean it?" Link said.
"Kind of. I have a better idea of having fun, anyway." Midna said. She placed Link back on the ground again.
"Better idea?" Link said.
"You'll see. And you can even still be a little hero!" Midna said. She let out another chant, different from the one she used to transform Link into a wolf and back. Soon, there was a bright green light. It was bright enough to almost blind Link, and so he shielded his eyes.

When the light disappeared, Link looked around. There was a big crowd of people looking at him, like they had seen a ghost suddenly pop up. Link looked down next.
"I'm... I'm back to my normal size." Link said. He couldn't believe it... Midna actually did a favor! It felt too good to be true, so he thought back to what Midna had said.
"What is she up to? She said I could still be her little hero." Link said to himself. He looked around, calling out for Midna.
"Midna! Midna!!!" Link shouted.
"Aieeeeeeee!!!" a young woman suddenly screamed. When Link looked at this woman, she was screaming up towards the sky, pointing up at something. Link looked in that direction, and that's where he saw a large batch of twilight swirling around and forming together. What happened next took away everyone's breath, including Link's. The twilight soon took shape before it faded into an object. Or rather, a giant person.

It was Midna. In her true form, and almost 300 feet tall.

Midna opened her eyes. First she observed over herself. She had her red hair, red eyes, and a pale complexion from the Twilight Realm. She had her long cloak, complete with half-dress that left one leg clearly visible. She really smiled when she saw how small Castle Town now was. She focused her attention on a group of people that was staring up at her?
"What? Say something! Am I so beautiful that you have no words left?" Midna said. Finally, everyone just started running. At first bumping into each other, but then making as fast a getaway as they could.
"Teeheehee!" Midna laughed. Finally, she raised one of her feet and stomped down, leaving behind a loud booming sound. This sound happened everytime she put a foot down, along of course with the sounds of a structure coming down if she stepped on such a thing.
Link couldn't believe what he was seeing. Perhaps he never should've made that request to return to normal. But then again, how could he have known that Midna was capable of growing to such a huge height? He thought she was tall before, thinking back to how she stood a whole head taller than both he and Zelda. Ganondorf probably couldn't even dream of being this big if he were Ganon. This was pure insanity, and he felt responsible for it.
He had to be brave, however. He ran up as close as he could safely get to Midna, which was a handful of yards away from her bare feet.
"Midna!!!" Link shouted. Midna picked up that call with her sensitive ears, looking down and left. Midna simply turned to a more straightforward position, not kneeling down whatsoever.
"So, what do you think, little hero? Problem solved, right?" Midna said.
"Why?" Link asked.
"Why indeed? You tell me!" Midna said.
"This isn't what I wanted!" Link said.
"Then what is it you desire? That's always been the only fault I had with you. You never seemed to get the big picture. Teeheehee!" Midna said. Link obviously caught on with the pun.
"Okay, that wasn't funny." Link said.
"Come here you. Why don't I give you a big kiss?" Midna said, finally reaching down to pick up Link. This time, he wanted no part of it.
"Oh no!" Link said. He managed to dodge Midna's huge hand, and he took off running away from her.
"Oh... I've always wanted to play chase the wolf!" Midna said. She started walking towards Link, but very slowly, letting him think he's getting away. Link would look back a few times during his run to see the giant Midna right behind him.
"Gotta get to Hyrule Castle, and warn Zelda!" Link shouted.

The chase continued all the way around Castle Town, with Link struggling to fight his way through the panicking crowd. Midna just played along, staying behind to make Link think he was getting away. In fact, she stepped carefully through the town, trying to crush as little as possible as she was only interested in Link. Of course, it couldn't be helped that some things couldn't survive under her 30-story-high self. She did take pride in watching all the citizens of the town try and run away from her.
Eventually, Link made it out of the crowds and was on the direct path to Hyrule Castle. The gates were open, so he wouldn't be running into a dead end. Or so he thought. Midna was done playing. She wasn't about to get Zelda involved in all this. That's when Midna actually jumped into the air. This was actually a little difficult considering how much more body mass had increased, and gravity is usually unkind to heavy objects, whether or not it's a living, breathing giantess.
But she made the perfect leap. She landed just in front of Hyrule Castle itself, cutting Link off the path and knocking him off his feet from the tremendous quake that ensued. Link actually had to move to his right to avoid one of the cracks in the ground from swallowing him.

Midna smiled. She felt quite powerful after seeing that display. And she felt better still when she turned around and saw she was about a full head taller than the castle itself. Then she looked back down at Link.
"Gotcha! No way I'm about to let Zelda be a part of this." Midna said. As Midna finally was able to pick up Link and hold him up at her face, he showed another angry face as soon as he heard Zelda's name.
"Midna, I swear if you bring Zelda into this..." Link said.
"Oh, relax, hero! I'm not gonna bother her or the castle. All I want is you." Midna said. But then, another wild change happened. No, it wasn't physical. This was more emotional. Link could tell as Midna wiped the smile off her face and suddenly had a pretty stern look on her face.
"You barely made it past my three tests. This is what happens when the Hour of Twilight is reflected across both realms." Midna said.
"Huh? What do you mean?" Link said.
"The Mirror of Twilight will take time to seal off all of the twilight from your world. When the Hour of Twilight parallels that of your world, little bits of twilight will leak out. It can and will affect the minds of those who are not ready." Midna said.
"So... so you're saying there is some twilight left in Hyrule?" Link asked. Midna didn't give a nod or shake of her head.
"I am doing all that I can from my end. You and Zelda must assist me in purging the remaining twilight." Midna said.
"But how?" Link asked.
"You're the hero, you'll figure something out. You must hurry... even though it's not a lot, the effects could be as bad as when that fool Zant was around." Midna said.
"Okay... I understand." Link said. Midna smiled.
"I know you do. Your words are kind, and your heart is true." Midna said. She stared at Link for a few seconds without saying another word. Link wondered what the pause was for.
"Huh? What is it, Midna?" Link said.
"I... I...." Midna said, seemingly having trouble getting the words out. That's when she inched her mouth ever so closer to Link. Link wondered what she was doing... wanting to plant a kiss? Or worse, swallow him? His nervousness caused him to back away.
"Midna!" Link shouted. Finally, he ended up backing away too much, tumbling out of Midna's open palm and towards the ground below. Worst of all, Midna looked like she was frozen in time. And with nothing around that can possibly save him, Link braced for a painful ending to his life.

Ordon Village
Link's hut

Link's view came back as he woke up with a huge startle. Link looked around, expecting to be in whatever place dead heroes go to. But, after looking around, he could only realize one thing. He was looking around his room.
"W-What happened?" Link asked. Instead of going back to sleep, Link jumped out of his bed and climbed up a level to the lookout. With heavy sweat and a stiff neck, he looked around to see that he and his hut were towering above the grass like normal. Link, looking out at the rest of the village, then realized the truth.
"So it was a dream after all. What in Hyrule took me so long to wake up, I wonder..." Link said. Not too long after, he looked down and saw Fado and the four children (Malo, Talo, Beth, and Colin) all running up towards the hut until they all looked up and saw Link.
"Good morning, Link!" Colin shouted.
"Did you sleep well?" Beth asked. Link couldn't possibly tell the truth to the kids, especially not after he was in Beth's hands in last night's dream to begin with.
"Um... yeah. Yes I did. I had the most interesting dream." Link said.
"What was it about?" Malo asked.
"Yeah, tell us already!" Talo said.
"Oh, pipe down, you kids! It's probably very personal to him!" Fado said. Link just smiled when he heard that.
"Yeah, what he said!" Link said.
"It's okay, Link. I understand." Colin said.
"Yeah, I think I can too." Beth said.
"Listen, Link, you want to do some goat herdin' before you run off to the castle?" Fado said, reminding Link what he was supposed to do.
"Yeah, sure. I'll be right down." Link said.
"Great! I know you'll give 'em goats a heck! Gotta ease the mayor's worries, after all!" Fado said before he ran off. The kids followed him as they too waited for Link to arrive in the heart of the village.

And with that, Link breathed a sigh of relief. But at the same time, he thought hard about Midna's words.
"You're the hero, you'll figure something out. You must hurry... even though it's not a lot, the effects could be as bad as when that fool Zant was around." Midna said. Link nodded.
"I'll have to tell Princess Zelda about this dream. Midna may be a little silly, but she is the Twilight Princess." Link said to himself. Putting his green tunic on, and this time arming himself with a few weapons.
"And I definitely don't want to see her giant-sized." Link said. He later thought that it might have been fun for a little while, but certainly not for Hyrule. As he left his hut for the day, Midna's words continued to echo in his mind. This was a very important mission if Hyrule was to return to many years of peace and prosperity. It's something that not just he and Zelda want, but it's what everyone wants.

Including Midna. Otherwise she wouldn't have invaded his dreams like she did.

Link nodded. Finally, it made sense.
